Romantic relationships between couples, separated by a distance barrier, are often unceremoniously stereotyped as something that has reduced chance of success. But X and Y are exceptions to this hyperbole.
Both are IT professionals living in different cities. They would connect regularly via audio/video calls since the option of meeting daily or even weekly, seemed implausible. Amidst the ongoing predicament, these daily calls provided some sort of solace.
With time, their relationship deepened. But hectic work schedule became a main deterrent to their diurnal interactions. Because X had to work from early morning till evening, whereas Y worked from late afternoon till the wee hours of morning.
Driven by their love for each other, they formulated a quaint solution to address this snag. X would call Y before going to sleep at night. With the call still active, X would fall asleep while Y worked. The above roles would reverse in the morning.
Funnily enough, this unfurled a new paradigm of hidden secrets to their relationship which would have been or else impossible to dig out. They started knowing the embarrassing traits of each other, such as snoring habits and awkward sleeping positions. These would later be used in jest.
In addition, this practice transported them to a much cherished pseudo-world, where they were beside each other speaking in whispers. Ultimately, what is love without that undying and omnipresent presence of your loved ones, isn’t it?
Probably, that’s why both are at peace nowadays. The sounds of one’s hands slapping on the keyboard and the intermittent scribbling of a pen on the scratch pad infiltrate as a lullaby to the other’s ears, while gradually succumbing to deep sleep.
