Letting off some steam!

It is with great trepidation that I start writing here. I never considered myself to be much of a creative person, let alone a writer. I am acquainted with scientific writing having published in around fifteen journals, as of today, over the course of my doctoral research in Mechanical Engineering. But creative writing, which does not really follow the set guidelines prescribed in scientific writing, is an entirely different ball game. Today, I decided to give it a shot, nevertheless.

Our planet Earth has changed a lot in recent times. With the Covid-19 pandemic setting in, the past two years of my life, like millions of people across the globe, have not been easy. But we cannot stay in a deadlock for too long as the world around us will move on. To cheer myself up, I chose the mode of playing with words.

I feel the urge of expressing many emotions or imaginations that I find appealing. They creep into the brain at times but are always uncharted. A blog handle is apt for journaling such bundled up expressions. Letting off your steam through writing can be therapeutic.

My thoughts drift a bit when I ponder about what this means to me. A popular Indian cinema lore came to my mind. In the cult movie “Roja”, the first song “Dil Hain Chota Sa” (“Chinna Chinna Aasai” in the original Tamil version), opens with a beautiful shot of a sunrise right when the primary background music ramps up. Movie fanatics speculate that this sunrise shot symbolizes a new chapter in the history of Indian music, one that will be ruled by the now world-famous A. R. Rahman, the music director of the movie, who was a debutant at that time. This might be a happy coincidence, but I am sure that repeat listeners will find a new meaning to the song after hearing it now (the first twenty seconds will be enough), coupled with that scene. This handle is such a new sunrise in my life, unravelling a fresh trail of multiple unexplored thoughts, which will help me positively re-imagine things.

From the analogy above, my affinity for music is probably evident to any of you who are reading this. Connections between different forms of world music fascinate me since as long as I can remember. Because in essence, these are life stories of people coming from diverse cultures and beliefs. I take a fancy in writing about them. I want to talk about my other love, food too. But one step at a time. Let me sharpen my rusty imagination, articulate some of my unscathed thoughts and gain confidence before transferring to more content-heavy topics.

Expressing the deepest of emotions/perspectives/imaginations with clarity through writing is hard, but it is harder to ignore the inner calling. So, without further ado, let’s let off some steam.
